Dear Parent/Guardian,
Each spring, students in grades 3–8 participate in the New York State assessments in English Language Arts (ELA),
Mathematics, and Science. These assessments measure student progress toward meeting the New York State Next
Generation Learning Standards. This year, all students in grades 3–8 will take the New York State exams using a
computer-based testing (CBT) format.
The assessments will be administered on the following dates:
English Language Arts (ELA)
● April 16–17 – Grades 6–8
● April 21–22 – Grades 3–5
● April 23–24 – Make-up Testing
Mathematics
● April 30 – May 1 – Grades 6–8
● May 5–6 – Grades 3–5
● May 7–8 – Make-up Testing
Science (Grades 5 & 8 only)
● May 12 – Science Exam
● May 13–14 – Make-up Testing
Students will have as much time as needed within the school day to complete each exam. We ask that all students
arrive at school on time, well-rested, and ready to do their best. Regular attendance during testing days is very
important.
